In-home Chef's in a COVID World

I can’t say that’s in been easy to have a personal chef business during COVID. As a matter of fact, it’s been almost devastating to say the least. I won’t bore you with the buzz words of “unprecedented”, “unknown”, “new normal” or the biggest buzz word itself “COVID-19.” You have heard it all. From government bailouts to lock downs, our responses to this unseen beast has been at best varied.

The private-chef industry has all but dwindled, but in my constant optimism I see a light. I see a space where families are home for the first time in a long time, adults are learning how to cook, and variety is needed. For some, the answer will never be to use a personal family chef, simply because we understand the financial impact that COVID has had on most families. We understand that many have lost their jobs and just figuring out the day to day is a challenge. We have moved to a space of pickup groceries, and Amazon delivers just about everything so for other families, the fear of simply having someone in their home may be too much to handle. But we do see a light and space where new energies are created.

I read an article in which a personal chef is offering classes online for free and personalization for a cost. Zoom meetings just got pretty interesting huh? I also found that some chefs are starting to open their restaurants with delivery service or pickup service only so that they continue to offer that same world class experience. And then I finally found a few chefs who were still going into homes and making the worst experience the best experience by bringing families back to the dinner table.

Regardless of our reaction, the only constant is change. We must and we will adapt to the ever changing environment. The good news is that now, families are facing this challenge together. Although, it is difficult to embrace know that whatever lies beyond the horizon may very well be worth the ride.
